In a major relief to South Delhi taxpayers; SDMC has extended the deadline for depositing property tax from June 30 to July 15 for the financial year 2018-19. Under the scheme named as ‘amnesty scheme’, if a taxpayer goes for online payment, then he/she will get a rebate of 15% along with an additional rebate of 2%.

According to SDMC mayor Narender Chawla, “The decision has been taken keeping in mind the long waiting time in depositing the tax.” He further added that no rebate will be allowed after July 15 and necessary action will be taken against the defaulters.

Earlier North Delhi Municipal Corporation has also extended the property tax deadline under amnesty scheme. Veena Virmani, Standing committee chairman of North Delhi Municipal Corporation said that they will organize camps to verify the unique property card (UPIC) card details for enrolled tax payers.

SDMC has already created a new record by collecting a huge sum of Rs 691 crores as property tax in the financial year 2017-18. They have achieved this target by creating awareness among masses about the importance of paying tax before last date. Also, they have kept its offices open on gazette holidays and on last Saturday for the convenience of the property owners. Because of all these efforts, the civic body collected an amount of Rs 93 crore in just three days before the deadline was about to end.
